Song of the Week - Week 6

Our song of the week this week is "Islands" which was the Hook, Line and Singalong Competition winner in 2014.  The video has the lyrics and also the sign language for us to learn.

Skip Counting

At student led conferences last term, many students set themselves a goal of learning how to skip count in 2's, 5's or 10's.
I found this cool activity and thought it might be useful to use at home to help with this.  Check out step 3 where the boy skip counts in 2's.
If you would like me to print you a copy then please let me know.

Maths Whizz

Thank you to all the parents who came along to our parent evening a couple of weeks ago.  I hope those of you that made it along got something out of the evening.

Margaret White kindly took notes during the evening and these are attached here.  If you would like a printed copy, please don't hesitate to ask.

Cross Country

On Wednesday 6th May we were treated to a spectacular Canterbury Autumn day, just in time for our school cross country!  Our excitement was unmistakable and our spirits were high.  We ran, we cheered, we supported and we had loads of fun!

A massive thank you to all the parents who came down to support us on the day.  We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Here is some of our reflective writing about Cross Country:

"I loved cross country and it was so fun.  I came second and I was impressed with myself" Kynzie

"I ran two laps of the field and I ran to the finish.  I ran really fast.  I had fun and I liked getting a certificate" Savanna

"At cross country I ran fast.  My mum said "Go Toby!"  I gave Koby a high five.  It was funny when Miss Carr chased Asher.  When I finished I got a certificate.  I had fun at cross country." Toby

"We had cross country.  I came third.  Kade passed me, he came second.  Koby gave me a high five at the end.  I got a certificate.  I liked it.  My mum gave me a high five.  After I was really tired!" Angus

"We trained for the cross country.  The next day we watched the seniors.  Then it was us.  We started in the corner of the field.  I was behind Richie.  We ran 2 and 3/4 laps of the field.  At the end I came second, then I got a certificate.  The day was awesome!" Xavier

Here are some of the photos from the day too:

Song of the Week - Week 5

At assembly next week we will be performing two songs.

The first one is an extended version of "The Colour Song" performed in Te Reo, English and New Zealand Sign Language, originally performed by students at Riccarton Primary School.

The second song is "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten

We hope you enjoy learning these songs with us!

Geometry Fun!

Maths on Wednesdays are always fun in Matai.  We often work with Totara and do different types of maths learning.  Over the last two weeks we have been exploring geometry concepts and ideas through activity stations in the two classrooms.  In addition to learning maths it has helped us be self managing learners as we had to manage our time and ourselves and work at all the stations over the two sessions.  We were having so much fun today we almost forgot to go to our afternoon break!
