Swimming

Over the last two weeks we have been having swimming lessons with a fantastic bunch of CCC swimming instructors.  These lessons finish up tomorrow and we are looking forward to showing off our new skills and improved confidence in the water at our Big Swim on Monday 2nd March.

Over the last two days we have been learning some water safety practices.  It has been a bit of a different experience bobbing around in lifejackets, climbing into boats and bravely jumping in the deep end all while being fully clothed!

Here are some photos of what we have been up to the last two days...

Water Safety

During swimming lessons tomorrow (Wednesday) the children will be doing some water safety training.  As part of this, students need to bring clothes - a t-shirt and shorts or pyjamas (no jeans or tops with buttons), that they can wear in the swimming pool.

All About Me

All About Me books were sent home yesterday.  We have been working on these in class for the last two weeks and it would be appreciated if these could be finished at home and returned to school so that we can have these displayed in the class to help us all get to know each other.

Modigliani Self Portraits

On Friday 13th February, Mrs Spragg and her year 4's had a camp meeting with Mr Matthews and Kauri so Matai hosted some extra students for part of the day.  These students were the students in Totara not attending camp this week.

Miss Carr introduced us to a famous artist from Italy called Modigliani.  His portraits were unique because of their elongated faces and necks.

Miss Carr talked us through an example which she did of herself before it was our turn.  We learnt how to fold the paper to help us with the proportions.  We had to do lots of practice on white paper before Miss Carr would let us do our final work on black paper with oil pastels.

Our finished works are pretty spectacular and they are now proudly on display in the Library.  Mrs Manton was so impressed with our work, she had to come into class and see us this morning to congratulate us on our outstanding work!

Make sure you pop into the library to check it out for yourself!
